In November 2020, I joined an online book club (around this book) of over 1000+ people to learn Zettelkasten and creating what might be the first ever, collaborative slipbox and synthesizing our thoughts together in Roam Research. My personal “workspace”
Roam Research - A note taking tool for networked thought.
and to be fair, I do feel I intuitively create a slipbox in Notion (but not nearly as rigorous!)
Man’s greatest inventions come from “nothing,” thus we are drawn to draw on a blank canvas or write on a blank page. It is the preparation of notes that externalize our thinking that allows us to go beyond willpower when it comes to writing.
The key to getting unstuck is giving up planning and seeing the creative flow of ideas as our source of control. By implementing an adaptive structure for our writing starting from a place of abundance, we free our brains from using tricks like compartmentalization and embrace creativity at its core.
A transformed process for idea generation uses curiosity as the source of inquiry, frames one’s own worldview while listening/reading, and combines writing as core to this process.
A tool that works increases focus and enhances your process (in this case, thinking). The slipbox is a tool that reinforces a disciplined process transforming your raw thoughts into meaningful well-written notes.
Understanding why a tool works empowers you to develop the tool rooted in its underlying principles and improve upon it.
